Earn up to $20/hour teaching English online

If you haven’t read my post about getting started as a teacher on Qkids, you should check that post out first. I go over details about working with Qkids. In this post I talk about the exciting part and the part most people wonder about… the pay! If you are ready to join Qkids, click my referral link to get started!

How Much Money Can You Make with Qkids?

With Qkids you can actually earn quite a bit of side income depending on how many slots you are willing to open up. The number of slots available will vary throughout the year, so you may have some instances where you could earn more than you normally would. The base pay is $8 per 30 minute class (which is technically 33 minutes-see the “How Does Qkids Work” section of my previous post).

Then you have an opportunity to earn a $1 performance bonus on top of that. A performance bonus is based on family reviews. Essentially you have to get at least 4 out of 5 stars from parents. There is also a $1 attendance bonus. You can earn that for each class as long as you are teaching a minimum of 15 classes in that week. That adds up to a minimum of $16/hour up to $20/hour. It’s pretty easy to get the bonuses, but honestly I don’t even stress about them. With my schedule right now, I can earn a minimum of $351 up to $390 per week.

However, if an invitation comes up for a class outside of the slots I opened on my schedule, I can accept that. So, that would allow me to earn more than I planned. There’s roughly 4 weeks in a month, so that gives me about $1400- $1560 per month (or more depending on my last point). That’s just teaching about 20 or so hours a week (AT HOME), which is pretty great to me! Plus, you can still do a full time job or other side hustles on top of Qkids.

I actually have a perfect example of how you can earn more money than you expected that occurred for me last week. Qkids had an announcement in the dashboard saying it is Winter Holiday in China. Essentially there is about a month of weekday evening slots on top of the weekend evening slots. I went ahead and opened up 16 more weekday evening slots. That’s extra unexpected money on top of the regular earnings. Yay!

How and When Do You Get Paid?

Qkids transfers money directly to your bank account. I have always preferred direct deposit, so I appreciate that. They thankfully cover the transfer fees. You are paid once a month. The pay period ends on the last day of the month. Then you typically get your payment in your account by the 15th of the following month. However, it’s usually in my account earlier than that. Remember, taxes are not taken out since you are considered an independent contractor. You will have to handle taxes on your own or with a CPA. The mobile app and the software makes it easy for you to keep up with your earnings. It is updated after each class and of course after each week once your attendance and performance reviews are put together.
